April After All ( Ron Sexsmith Cover ) 10.20.09
I love songs that sound melancholy but have hopeful, uplifting lyrics. They make me feel good. Whenever I hear such a song, I feel like someone else “gets it”, gets life, in all its complexities. Ron Sexsmith is a master at connecting to the human condition, marrying moody chord progressions that are in sync with the ideas and stories he conveys.
April After All closed Sexsmith’s third album, Other Songs, released in 1997. I think the album is a masterpiece, and certainly one of Ron’s best. He’s written so many great songs, but I think this one is my favourite.
I also did another of Ron’s great songs about six months, There’s a Rhythm, and you can check it out below.
