Seasons ( Elton John / Bernie Taupin Cover ) 04.28.09

This song has always been a favourite of mine. I’ve met very few people who are familiar with it, as it was a song that was part of a film soundtrack to a movie called Friends (1971.) I’ve yet to see the film, but I became familiar with the song when I purchased Elton John‘s Rare Masters double cd, back in 1992. I fell in love with the song then and there. The song’s inclusion on the Heart live album, The Road Homeproduced and arranged by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones—from 1995 was the main reason why I picked up that album too, just to see how the ladies would approach the song. Look for it. It’s beautiful.

Elton and Bernie Taupin have written some amazing pop songs over the years, songs that have become standards, but I truly believe some of their lesser-known songs, like Seasons, Come Down In Time, Harmony, We All Fall In Love Sometimes, Goodbye, Tonight, Empty Garden, Believe and I Want Love should to be covered and played and exposed to a wider audience. In my opinion, those songs sit very comfortably within the pantheon, right along side Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Tiny Dancer and Bennie And The Jets.

I don’t know if Elton has ever played Seasons live. Has he? He should.
